# Setting a Predefined Quantity in the Quantity Selector

With **Add-to-cart blocking** on, MinCart keeps the quantity selector on your product pages within your limits: it starts at the right quantity and comes back to an allowed one when the customer goes outside the limits.

## Set It Up

1. Turn on **Add-to-cart blocking** in the MinCart app embed. See [Add to Cart Blocking](https://molsoft.crisp.help/en/article/add-to-cart-blocking-12n8ui8/).
2. Set **When the quantity is outside the limits** to **Correct the quantity and explain**.
3. If you have Variant limits with a multiple, set **Variants sold in multiples** to **Force the quantity selector to stay in steps**: the selector then only offers quantities that bring the variant's total to a multiple, counting what's already in the cart.

The quantity selector moves to the closest allowed quantity when the page loads, when the customer picks another variant, after the cart changes, and when they finish typing a quantity. With the "MinCart limit messages" block on the product page, the limit's message explains the change.

## Maximums: Every Limit Type

Every maximum applies to the quantity selector, whatever the limit type: Whole Cart, Product, Variant, Collection, Product Type, Vendor or Tag. A quantity that would take the cart over a maximum comes back to the highest allowed one, counting what's already in the cart.

## Want Your Minimums in the Quantity Selector? Use a Variant Limit

If you set a minimum with a Product, Collection or other limit and want the quantity selector to start at it, create it as a **Variant** limit instead.

The quantity selector holds the quantity of one variant at a time, so applying a limit there means looking at each variant on its own. That's exactly what the Variant limit type does.

A Variant limit can still cover a lot: its target can be a whole product, a collection, or Target Rules (Product Title, Collection Title, Vendor, Product Type or Tag). Every variant inside that target gets its own minimum, maximum and multiple. With a minimum of 3 on a product, each of its variants starts at 3 when the cart has none of it.

| The other limit types (Whole Cart, Product, Collection, Product Type, Vendor, Tag) count several products together: a customer can meet their minimums and multiples by combining products, so MinCart checks them in the cart and at checkout only.
