Restricting Discount Code Usage Beyond Allowed Limits

Must be on Shopify Plus

To prevent users from using discount codes in addition to set purchase limits, you need to configure activation rules in the MinCart app. This guide will walk you through setting up these rules to ensure discount codes are not applied when purchase limits are in place.

Steps to Implement Purchase Limits with Discount Code Restrictions
1. Create a Limit Title
Assign a name to the limit you are setting up.
2. Set Activation Dates
Define the dates during which the limit will be active.
3. Target and Tag Exclusions
Specify the products or categories that the limit applies to.
Add any necessary tag exclusions.
4. Choose Limit Type
Select the appropriate type of limit (e.g., whole cart, product).
5. Configure Activation Rules
Type: Select “Discount code.”
Condition: Set the condition to “Is not equal to.”
Value: Enter a unique identifier that none of your discount codes use, such as “ABC.”

By following these steps, the system will trigger a rule that prevents customers from applying any discount codes when purchasing items subject to the set limits. This ensures that discount codes cannot be used in conjunction with the limits you have established.

To enhance the user experience, it's important to update your warning messages to clearly communicate that discounts cannot be applied to items with set limitations. By clearly communicating this information, you help prevent any frustration or confusion, leading to a more seamless shopping experience for your customers.
