How to Set a Minimum Purchase for a Product When It’s the Only Item in the Cart
In this scenario, you'll use the powerful "Activation Rules" feature and create two limitations. Additionally, you'll need to assign a unique Product Type to the product with the minimum requirement.
Navigate to the product in your Shopify admin.
Assign a unique Product Type to the product. For example, if the product is "Stickers," set the Product Type to "Stickers". This will help us distinguish it when creating limitations.
Go to the Limitations section in the MinCart app.
Create a new limitation and configure it as follows:
Limit Type: Product Type
Limit Name: Assign a unique name to help identify this limitation's purpose (e.g., "Stickers Minimum Rule").
Activation Dates: Leave as is to start immediately.
Active: Leave Checked.
Audience Type: Everyone.
Tag Exclusions: Leave blank.
Items to Target: Select the Product Type "Stickers." Remember to enter a comma after you write the product type and it must match with case sensitivity.
Set Limits "By Resource":
Resource Type: Product
Maximum Number of Resources in Product Type: Set to 1.
Click Save.
Navigate to the Limitations section in the MinCart app.
Click Create Limit and configure the settings as follows:
Limit Type: Whole Cart
Limit Name: Assign a unique name to help identify this limitation's purpose (e.g., "Minimum Cart Value for Stickers").
Activation Dates: Leave as is, so the limit starts today.
Active: Leave checked.
Audience Type: Everyone.
Tag Exclusions: Leave blank.
Set Limits: By Total Price
Set the Minimum Cart Price to the desired amount customers must purchase.
Force Limit: Leave unchecked.
Text for Minimum Not Respected: Customize this message to inform customers about the cart limitation (e.g., "Your cart must reach $X when purchasing this item alone").
Under Activation Rules:
Select Limit > [Your First Limit] > Is Respected.
Click Save.
