# Checkout Extensions vs. Checkout Validation

| Both options provide valuable functionality, but **CHECKOUT VALIDATION** is essential for merchants using **TAG-BASED LIMITATIONS** .
| Note that **CHECKOUT EXTENSIONS** are only available for **SHOPIFY PLUS STORES** .

MinCart offers two robust options for integrating with your checkout process: **Checkout Extensions** and **Checkout Validation** . Each option serves different purposes and comes with specific requirements. Here’s a breakdown of their differences:

1. **Checkout Extensions** :
   - Available only for **Shopify Plus** merchants.
   - Integrated into the checkout process through **App Blocks** .
  
2. **Checkout Validation** :
   - A highly powerful alternative to Checkout Extensions.
   - The only method that fully supports limitation settings using **tags** .
   - If you're using tags in your limitations, Checkout Validation is essential for ensuring limits function as expected, as tag-based limits do not work correctly with Checkout Extensions.

## Checkout Validation

| Checkout validation is available for all Shopify plans and MinCart plans.

Checkout Validation is a Shopify feature that MinCart leverages to enforce limits during the checkout step.

### Drawbacks

1. **Sales Channel Limitation** : Only works with the "online store" sales channel. This also means that the user needs to shop on the website before reaching the checkout. A direct checkout link won't work with this method Ex. Abandon cart emails or pre-populated checkouts. 
2. **Limited Scope** : Won't work with dynamic checkout buttons, Shop App, or other sales channels.

### How to Enable Checkout Validation

1. Click on **Shopify Settings**
2. Click on **Checkout**
3. Scroll down to **Checkout Rules**
4. Click **Add Rule**

5. Select **MinCart Checkout validation**

6. Click on **Save** for the new rule.

Checkout Validation is now enabled on your site, allowing MinCart to function seamlessly during the checkout process.

## Checkout Extensions

Checkout Extensions allow for a tailored checkout experience through apps. MinCart utilizes this feature to run natively in the checkout process, adding a robust layer of security.

### Benefits

1. **Checkout** : Runs natively during the checkout process.
2. **Sales Channels** : Works with dynamic checkout buttons, headless Shopify stores, and all sales channels that use Shopify's checkout.
3. **Shop App** : Can run within Shop Pay.
4. **Activation Rules** : Use [Activation Rules](https://molsoft.crisp.help/en/article/activation-rules-1tz94vr) to activate limits based on information entered by the customer in the checkout steps.

### How to Enable Checkout Extensions

1. Click on **Shopify Settings**
2. Click on **Checkout**
3. Click on **Customize** next to your checkout profile.

| If you are using the **ONE PAGE CHECKOUT**, you should add the block only **ONCE** under the **Payment** setting, select **Payment** and check the option **Include app block in Shop Pay** .

|| If you have the **3 PAGE CHECKOUT**, you need to add the block for each step **Contact** , **Delivery** and **Payment** and then in the dropdown select the corresponding **Checkout step** .
