Adding a Limit to Variants Across Multiple Products
Setting Limits for Multiple Variants in MinCart
Managing variant limits can be challenging when you need to apply a restriction across multiple variants from different products. By default, MinCart’s variant limit applies individually to each targeted variant. However, there is a workaround that allows you to target multiple variants as a group, provided your product naming convention supports it.
When selecting a collection to target the variants inside, you will receive a notification stating: "Your limit is potentially targeting multiple variants." This means the limit applies separately to each variant within the targeted collection. This method allows you to quickly set up limits for multiple variants simultaneously.
Currently, MinCart does not support targeting multiple variants as a whole within a collection. However, you can achieve a similar outcome by using Whole Cart Limits with a naming convention-based approach.
If your product names or variant titles follow a structured format (e.g., including weight, size, or other distinguishing attributes), you can leverage Whole Cart Limits to enforce a restriction across all matching variants.
Suppose you sell different tea varieties with a 100g variant option across multiple products. You want to ensure that customers can only purchase one 100g tea canister per order.
Navigate to Whole Cart Limits in MinCart.
Click Create New Whole Cart Limit and name it something relevant, such as "100g Limit."

Limit Audience is Everyone
Tags exclusion we will leave blank

Under Set Limits, select By Resource.

In the Resource Type dropdown, choose Product.

Click on the Resource Type button to define the filtering criteria.
In the first selector, choose Variant Title.
In the second selector, select Contains.
In the third field, enter 100 (assuming "100g" appears in your variant titles).

Close the popup by clicking the [X] in the top right corner.

Under Maximum Number of Resource in Cart, enter 1.

Scroll down to Advanced Settings and check Count Resource Quantity.

In Resource Limits Texts, add a message to clarify the restriction, such as: "Only (1) purchase of 100g tea canisters per order."

Click Save to apply the limit.

MinCart applies limits to variants individually unless configured otherwise.
Whole Cart Limits allow for broader targeting based on naming conventions.
Using Variant Title Contains helps group similar variants under one restriction.
This method ensures customers cannot exceed the specified purchase limit across multiple products containing the defined keyword.
By implementing this approach, you can effectively enforce purchase restrictions on multiple variants without relying on direct multi-variant targeting. If you require further customization or assistance, reach out to MinCart support for guidance!
